Middle School Bridge Program

A New Option for Homeschool Families - Middle School Bridge Program

SFSAS knows that the creation of a safe and nurturing learning environment is a priority for your family. Creating academically and socially safe learning environments has been a core mission of SFSAS.  Adolescence is a time when sanctuary is especially important.  The Bridge Program allows 12-14 year old homeschoolers to participate in select middle school classes.  This provides them with access to a safe social arena, master teachers, and potentially, a place to finish middle school as a bridge to high school.  An added benefit to both the SFSAS Middle Schoolers and Bridge Program students is the opportunity to collaborate. Collaboration with diverse populations has been identified as a key 21st Century skill.

Free trial
We understand that this is a major decision for your family.  To support your decision-making process, we offer a free trial for each of the available courses.
For more information, please contact Satara Bixby, Director of Advancement and Admissions, at 505-438-8585 or satara@santafeschool.org.  The Middle School Bridge Courses are subject to space available, so please check in to find out if there are openings.

Middle School Bridge Classes offered for 2016-2017 School Year:

7th and 8th Grade STEM Electives: 1st Semester Coding and 2nd Semester Robotics
Fridays 1:20pm-3:15pm, $500 per semester, 15 classes per semester; 1st semester is Aug. 31-Jan. 13 and 2nd semester is Jan. 17-May 11
Teacher: Nate Moore

Coding - Fall Semester

We must all either "program or be programmed," and in the Coding elective, students learn how to be masters of their technology. Students will explore their coding and creative talents through a variety of programming languages and environments including Python, HTML, and Scratch. Students have the option of building a website, coding their own video game, or creating an animation as a final project for the class. Additionally, following the belief that the best way to learn something is to teach it, students will learn about the Hour of Code and help to spread knowledge of coding throughout our school.

Robotics - Spring Semester

The Robotics elective is an exploration of creativity, programming, and engineering. Students practice building and programming robots to complete specific tasks. They will learn about the design process and about how engineers and inventors develop new technologies. Students explore how robots are used in the world and what the future holds for robotic technologies.

7th and 8th Grade Performing Arts Elective: 1st and 2nd Semester Drama

Fridays 1:20pm-3:15pm, $500 per semester, 15 classes per semester; 1st semester is Aug. 31-Jan. 13 and 2nd semester is Jan. 17-May 11

Teacher: Chris Leslie

Drama

Students develop acting skills through a study of technique, improvisation, theater games, mime, camera work, and scene study. In addition, theater history is introduced in a general survey, exposing the students to the themes, styles, and the development of dramatic arts.  Each of these classes is tailored to the developmental needs of the age group.
